A Brief History of Central Manchester Women's Aid

Central Manchester Women's Aid (CMWA) has been in existence since 1974, and for over 30 years has offered safe, temporary accommodation and support to women and children experiencing domestic violence. We are based in a modern purpose-built house with disabled access to the ground floor and the garden area, which has been extended and adapted for wheelchair access.

THERE ARE 4 PROJECTS OPERATING IN THE REFUGE

The Core Project of the Refuge
The Re-settlement Project
The Outreach Project
The Children and Family Project

We have a staff team of 2 full-time Refuge Co-ordinators, 1 part-time re-settlement Co-ordinator, 2 full-time Outreach Co-ordinators, 1 part-time Development Co-ordinator, 1 part-time Children's Work Co-ordinator, and 1 part-time Crèche/Children's Worker.

We also have a team of dedicated volunteers working in the Management Committee, the Refuge Project and the Children and Family Project.

The Refuge Project offers advice; support and advocacy work to families living in the Refuge, and complementary to this, the Outreach and Re-settlement Projects offer support to families living in violent situations and to families who are in the process of being re-settled after living in the Refuge.

The Children and Family Project offers play activities and support to families who are living in the Refuge, and re-settled families where possible.
